Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was the first day you could register a handgun in DC.\u00c2\u00a0 How many people were in line, clamoring to exercise this new right?\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/07\/17\/AR2008071700621.html?hpid=moreheadlines\">Two<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 And one forgot his gun.<\/p>\n<p>~<\/p>\n<p>I was never a fan of comics as a kid, but after being introduced to a few really impressive &#8220;graphic novels&#8221; as an adult (i.e., <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FComplete-Maus-Survivors-Tale%2Fdp%2F0679406417%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1216398198%26sr%3D8-1&amp;tag=blacknellnet-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Maus<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FBlankets-Craig-Thompson%2Fdp%2F1891830430%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1216398336%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=blacknellnet-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Blankets<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FPalestine-Joe-Sacco%2Fdp%2F156097432X%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1216398395%26sr%3D1-2&amp;tag=blacknellnet-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Palestine<\/a>), I&#8217;m a little more open to the artform.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 So I found myself sucked into the webcomic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yehudamoon.com\">Yehuda Moon<\/a> the other day.\u00c2\u00a0 Not as serious as those graphic novels, but a bit of light &#8211; if occasionally pointed &#8211; fun.\u00c2\u00a0 If you&#8217;re a cyclist, check it out.<\/p>\n<p>~<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most entertaining session I attended at the first YearlyKos convention was the one where Dave &#8220;Mudcat&#8221; Saunders threatened to punch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FWhistling-Past-Dixie-Democrats-Without%2Fdp%2F074329016X%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1216398722%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=blacknellnet-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Whistling Past Dixie<\/a> author Tom Schaller for speaking frankly about some of the uglier sides of the South.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 As I&#8217;ve previously noted, <a href=\"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2006\/10\/05\/winning-without-the-south\/\">Tom&#8217;s probably not the best messenger<\/a>, but he&#8217;s got an important message.\u00c2\u00a0 Vivian Paige just started <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.vivianpaige.com\/2008\/07\/16\/review-whistling-past-dixie-part-i\/\">posting a multi-part review of the book<\/a>, and I&#8217;m looking forward to her take on it.<\/p>\n<p>~<\/p>\n<p>And that <a href=\"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2008\/07\/14\/murky-coffee-meta-petty\/\">post about pettiness<\/a>, earlier this week?\u00c2\u00a0 The Washington Post decided to prove that they can be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/07\/16\/AR2008071602018.html\">just as petty as the rest of us<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was the first day you could register a handgun in DC.\u00c2\u00a0 How many people were in line, clamoring to exercise this new right?\u00c2\u00a0 Two.\u00c2\u00a0 And one forgot his gun. ~ I was never a fan of comics as a kid, but after being introduced to a few really impressive &#8220;graphic novels&#8221;
