Lynn Westmoreland Plays to the Base"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Lynn Westmoreland <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/westmoreland-calls-obama-uppity-2008-09-04.html\">described Obama thusly<\/a>, today:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Just from what little I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they&#8217;re a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they&#8217;re uppity,&#8221; Westmoreland said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked to clarify that he used the word \u00e2\u20ac\u0153uppity,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Westmoreland said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Uppity, yeah.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"imagefloatright\" src=\"http:\/\/westmoreland.house.gov\/UploadedPhotos\/MediumResolution\/025c8572-4754-4aad-b1fa-cbbdec057945.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"132\" height=\"167\" \/><br \/>\nJust an innocent word that us mean old liberals are using to unfairly paint the Republicans as the home racists, right?\u00c2\u00a0 Ha.<\/p>\n<p>Lynn Westmoreland hails from Georgia&#8217;s 3rd Congressional District, which starts in Atlanta&#8217;s southwestern suburbs and heads over to the Alabama border.\u00c2\u00a0 There is no ambiguous use of the word &#8220;uppity&#8221; there.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s the sort of word that starts something that can often end in violence.\u00c2\u00a0 And when he was given a chance to retract it, good ol&#8217; racist Lynn Westmoreland pressed it home.\u00c2\u00a0 He can add this accomplishment to his resume, right there with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2006\/07\/14\/ap\/politics\/mainD8IRNHO85.shtml\">opposing renewal of the Voting Rights Act<\/a> and being <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiaunfiltered.blogspot.com\/2007\/06\/lynn-westmoreland-votes-against-emmett.html\">one of two House members to vote against H.R. 923<\/a>, the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act of 2007 (a bill that would have reopened hate crimes cases from before 1970).<\/p>\n<p>And we wonder why people think the South is full of racists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Lynn Westmoreland described Obama thusly, today: &#8220;Just from what little I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen.
