DC&#8217;s only organized cyclocross event &#8211; returns tomorrow (Sunday) to last year&#8217;s excellent venue at the Old <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afrh.gov\/afrh\/wash\/whistory.htm\">U.S. Soliders and Airmen&#8217;s Home<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"imagefloatright\" title=\"Jump!\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2081\/1795545940_4ae0532e63.jpg?v=0\" alt=\"\" width=\"272\" height=\"181\" \/>It was a great time last year (report <a href=\"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2007\/10\/29\/dccx-dc-does-cyclocross\/\">here<\/a>) and this year promises to be even better &#8211; higher payouts, Belgian sponsorship of the kids&#8217; race, and free frites for all!\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, that&#8217;s <em>free frites<\/em> &#8211; also know as Scud&#8217;s Famous Fries, the quality of which I will personally vouch for (I&#8217;ve enjoyed his fine work for years).\u00c2\u00a0 And if, for some unfathomable reason, beer (yes, beer) and frites on Sunday morning aren&#8217;t your thing, the DC Dutch Club will be making \u00e2\u20ac\u0153<a title=\"Wiki page\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Poffertjes\" target=\"_blank\">poffertjes<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153 on venue.\u00c2\u00a0 The weather is expected to be sunny (if a bit windy).\u00c2\u00a0 Bring some chairs, something to keep you warm, and a healthy sense of appreciation for the voluntary suffering of others.\u00c2\u00a0 The first races start at 9am, and the last starts at 2:30pm (finishing around 3:30pm).<\/p>\n<p>More info from the race organizer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcmtb.com\/blog\/\">here<\/a>, a bit of coverage in the Washington Post (!?) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/10\/16\/AR2008101603290.html\">here<\/a>, and the schedule and registration list <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikereg.com\/events\/register.asp?eventid=7143\">here<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 What better way to spend a Sunday morning?*<\/p>\n<p>*<em> Well, there is *one* better way, and that&#8217;s riding your bike instead of watching someone else ride his.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be down in Shenandoah doing that.\u00c2\u00a0 But believe me, while I&#8217;m climbing Hankey Mountain, you can be sure I&#8217;ll be wishing I&#8217;d chosen beer and frites.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DCCX &#8211;
