{"id":2400,"date":"2009-01-27T09:10:46","date_gmt":"2009-01-27T14:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/?p=2400"},"modified":"2009-01-27T09:10:46","modified_gmt":"2009-01-27T14:10:46","slug":"democrats-still-acting-like-losers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2009\/01\/27\/democrats-still-acting-like-losers\/","title":{"rendered":"Democrats Still Acting Like Losers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is bang-my-head-against-the-wall <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20090127\/ap_on_go_co\/obama_stimulus\">frustrating<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>House Democrats are likely to jettison family planning funds for the low-income from an $825 billion <span id=\"lw_1233033713_0\" class=\"yshortcuts\">economic stimulus bill<\/span>, officials said late Monday, following a personal appeal from <span id=\"lw_1233033713_1\" class=\"yshortcuts\">President Barack Obama<\/span> at a time the administration is courting Republican critics of the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>[ . . . ]<\/p>\n<p>Under the provision, states no longer would be required to obtain federal permission to offer <span id=\"lw_1233033713_2\" class=\"yshortcuts\">family planning services<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u201d including contraceptives \u00e2\u20ac\u201d under Medicaid, the health program for the low-income.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, that&#8217;s right, the Democrats will be caving to the Taliban-aping GOP.\u00c2\u00a0 The &#8220;controversial&#8221; idea here is that states could automatically elect to use their federal Medicaid funding to cover services that they&#8217;re presently providing with state funds.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 In other words, states would no longer be the ones paying for condoms and such for low-income Medicaid recipients, thus freeing up the state to use its tax revenues to meet other needs while ensuring that contraception is still available.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Seems pretty straightforward, no?\u00c2\u00a0 And since it&#8217;s up to each state to make this election, it should appeal to those conservatives who are always claiming that issues like this should be decided at the state level (in theory, anyway &#8211; I&#8217;ve found that that&#8217;s more often than not still as much a cover as &#8220;states&#8217; rights&#8221; used to be).\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 And yet here Democrats are, allowing something as simple as plain contraception to be treated as some divisive issue?\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m sorry, didn&#8217;t the American public just spend two years throwing out the theocracy supporters?\u00c2\u00a0 And Democrats react like <em>this<\/em>?\u00c2\u00a0 Pathetic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is bang-my-head-against-the-wall frustrating: House Democrats are likely to jettison family planning funds for the low-income from an $825 billion economic stimulus bill, officials said late Monday, following a personal appeal from President Barack Obama at a time the administration is courting Republican critics of the legislation.
