A <a href=\"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2006\/12\/01\/the-files\/\">surveillance society<\/a> doesn&#8217;t spring up overnight, but we&#8217;ve been moving by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/03\/09\/AR2007030900539.html\">leaps<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2007\/03\/09\/doj_fbi_misused_patr.html\">bounds<\/a>, lately.<\/p>\n<p>In the US and UK, the vast majority of the public seems to be utterly complacent about the ubiquitous gathering and storing of information about our private lives by people who have absolutely no accountability to them.  I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s necessarily because they don&#8217;t care, it&#8217;s because they don&#8217;t understand what it means.  And it&#8217;s not always the easiest thing to distill in a few minutes.  So I was happy to come across <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/jJTLL1UjvfU\">this video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><br \/>\nUpdated to link the video.
