{"id":2613,"date":"2009-03-20T08:25:45","date_gmt":"2009-03-20T13:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/?p=2613"},"modified":"2009-03-20T08:25:45","modified_gmt":"2009-03-20T13:25:45","slug":"noruz-greetings-happy-new-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2009\/03\/20\/noruz-greetings-happy-new-year\/","title":{"rendered":"NoRuz Greetings \/ Happy New Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today is the beginning of NoRuz.\u00c2\u00a0 What&#8217;s that?\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nowruz\">a short cut and paste<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[NoRuz] is the traditional <a title=\"Iranian\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iranian\">Iranian<\/a> <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"New year\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_year\">new year<\/a> <a title=\"Holiday\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Holiday\">holiday<\/a> celebrated by <a title=\"Iranian peoples\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iranian_peoples\">Iranian peoples<\/a>, having its roots in <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Ancient Iran\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ancient_Iran\">Ancient Iran<\/a>. Apart from the <a title=\"Greater Iran\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greater_Iran\">Iranian cultural continent<\/a> (<em>Greater Iran<\/em>), the celebration has spread in many other parts of the world, including parts of <a title=\"Central Asia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Central_Asia\">Central Asia<\/a>, <a title=\"South Asia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Asia\">South Asia<\/a>, <a title=\"Xinjiang\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Xinjiang\">Northwestern China<\/a>, the <a title=\"Crimea\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crimea\">Crimea<\/a>, and some ethnic groups in <a title=\"Albania\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Albania\">Albania<\/a>, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Bosnia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bosnia\">Bosnia<\/a>, <a title=\"Kosovo\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kosovo\">Kosovo<\/a> and the <a title=\"Republic of Macedonia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Republic_of_Macedonia\">Republic of Macedonia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Iranian Calendar\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iranian_Calendar\">Iranian year<\/a> and is a secular holiday. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Vernal equinox\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vernal_equinox\">vernal equinox<\/a>, which usually occurs on <a title=\"March 21\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/March_21\">March 21<\/a> or the previous\/following day depending on where it is observed. As well as being a <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Zoroastrian\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zoroastrian\">Zoroastrian<\/a> holiday and having significance amongst the Zoroastrian ancestors of modern Iranians. According to <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Britannica\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Britannica\">Encyclopedia Britannica<\/a>, the Jewish festival of <a title=\"Purim\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Purim\">Purim<\/a>, is probably adopted from the Persian New Year.\u00c2\u00a0 <sup id=\"cite_ref-Britannica_0-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nowruz#cite_note-Britannica-0\"><span><\/span><\/a><\/sup> It is also a holy day for Ismailis, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Alawites\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alawites\">Alawites<\/a>,<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nowruz#cite_note-1\"><span> <\/span><\/a><\/sup> <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Alevis\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alevis\">Alevis<\/a>, and adherents of the <a title=\"Bah\u00c3\u00a1'\u00c3\u00ad Faith\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bah%C3%A1%27%C3%AD_Faith\">Bah\u00c3\u00a1&#8217;\u00c3\u00ad Faith<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-bahai_calendar_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nowruz#cite_note-bahai_calendar-2\"><\/a><\/sup><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m not one for holidays (religious or otherwise), but I can really appreciate a celebration of the Spring Equinox.<\/p>\n<p>(Something tells me that I&#8217;ll be getting corrections, shortly . . . )<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is the beginning of NoRuz.\u00c2\u00a0 What&#8217;s that?\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a short cut and paste: [NoRuz] is the traditional Iranian new year holiday celebrated by Iranian peoples, having its roots in Ancient Iran.
