{"id":3950,"date":"2010-05-16T20:23:24","date_gmt":"2010-05-17T00:23:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/?p=3950"},"modified":"2010-05-17T10:07:46","modified_gmt":"2010-05-17T14:07:46","slug":"you-went-to-school-in-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2010\/05\/16\/you-went-to-school-in-texas\/","title":{"rendered":"You Went to School in Texas?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2010\/may\/16\/texas-schools-rewrites-us-history\">Oh<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[As an aside, I finished up my secondary schooling in Georgia. \u00c2\u00a0And it was clearly second rate, in comparison to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dodea.edu\/home\/\">DODs<\/a> schooling I got in Germany. \u00c2\u00a0So I know the failure that I mock. \u00c2\u00a0I mean, getting an entire class to ridicule me, with the approval of the teacher, when I brought up the mere possibility of intelligent design (cf. a literal seven day creation)? \u00c2\u00a0Yeah, that&#8217;s the American South.]<\/p>\n<p>Update: <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2010\/05\/tx_textbooks_proposal_students_must_discuss_guttin.php?ref=fpa\">more clowning<\/a> from the Texas State Board of Education:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The new\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfn.org\/site\/DocServer\/McLeroy_Amendments_-_May.pdf?docID=1461\">amendment<\/a> (.pdf), which is expected to get a vote on Thursday, would require high school history students to &#8220;discuss alternatives regarding long term entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare, given the decreasing worker to retiree ratio&#8221; and also &#8220;evaluate efforts by global organizations to undermine U. S. sovereignty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[ . . . ]<\/p>\n<p>As justification for that second item, McLeroy writes: &#8220;Threats of global government to individual freedom and liberty include the votes of the U. N. General Assembly, the International Criminal Court, the U. N.
