Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) has proposed an amendment to the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/87143\/reid-withdraws-cloture-on-jobs-bill-pared-back-version-coming\">jobs bill<\/a> requiring that recipients of unemployment insurance or welfare benefits get drug tested before they get their checks. From the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sltrib.com\/D=g\/ci_15304078\">Salt Lake Tribune<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>People seeking unemployment benefits or welfare would have to first pass a drug test under a proposal Sen. Orrin Hatch will try to add to legislation extending the social safety net during this time of economic turmoil.<\/p>\n<p>Hatch \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 said his idea would help battle drug addiction and could reduce the nation\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s debt.
