You’ve seen this<\/a> already, right? \u00c2\u00a0One part of the Federal government tells us that too much cheese is bad for us while another part works to improve the sales of menu items with 8x the usual cheese? \u00c2\u00a0I think that government has a legitimate role in promoting certain behaviors, but it’s pointless if one effort will undermine the other:<\/p>\n

Urged on by government warnings about saturated fat, Americans have been moving toward low-fat milk for decades, leaving a surplus of whole milk and milk fat. Yet the government, through Dairy Management, is engaged in an effort to find ways to get dairy back into Americans\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 diets, primarily through cheese.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here are a few examples of instances where other languages have found the right word and English simply falls speechless.<\/p>\n

1. Toska
\nRussian \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Vladmir Nabokov describes it best: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody of something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
