From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arlingtonva.us\/Departments\/CountyManager\/Documents\/page57640.pdf\">the memo<\/a> (PDF):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Much has been reported lately of an immigration \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcproblem\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in parts of Northern Virginia. There is no such \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcproblem\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in Arlington County,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d County Manager Ron Carlee wrote in a Sept. 11 memo. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Much of what is being said about immigration is political rhetoric during a hotly contested campaign season.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is exactly right.  Mr. Carlee goes on to lay out the facts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00c2\u00a0During a time of rapidly increasing diversity, we have experienced the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The lowest crime rate in our history.<\/li>\n<li>The most rapid increase in property values in our history &#8211; now stabilized.<\/li>\n<li>Some of the best schools in the nation.<\/li>\n<li>Some of the highest incomes in the nation.<\/li>\n<li>Full employment resulting in labor shortages.<\/li>\n<li>Extensive private commercial investment.<\/li>\n<li>Expansion of retail and leisure activities.<\/li>\n<li>Lowest tax rate among major jurisdictions in Northern Virginia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to see more local governments taking the time to make similarly honest and public statements about the actual impact of immigration in those jurisdictions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent DC Examiner piece noted that Ron Carlee, Arlington&#8217;s County Manager, recently submitted a memo to the Arlington County Board on the impact of immigration on the administration of government in Arlington.
