{"id":553,"date":"2007-11-08T21:49:28","date_gmt":"2007-11-09T01:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2007\/11\/08\/mortified\/"},"modified":"2007-11-08T21:49:28","modified_gmt":"2007-11-09T01:49:28","slug":"mortified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2007\/11\/08\/mortified\/","title":{"rendered":"Mortified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I found out about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.getmortified.com\/\">Mortified: Angst Written<\/a> too late to go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/10\/25\/AR2007102501178.html\">last night&#8217;s show<\/a> at H.R. 57.\u00c2\u00a0 I only found out about it when listening to <a href=\"http:\/\/wamu.org\/programs\/kn\/07\/11\/07.php\">Kojo&#8217;s show<\/a>, and by the time I got in front of a computer to order tickets, they were sold out.*\u00c2\u00a0 Which is probably a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>What am I talking about?\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m talking about Mortified, an ongoing performance piece which describes itself as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> a comic excavation        of adolescent artifacts (journals, letters, poems, lyrics, home movies,        stories and more) as shared by their original authors before total strangers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, people go through their old stuff from high school, pick out the most embarrassing of it, and are brave enough to get up on stage as adults reading their teenage words.\u00c2\u00a0 If being at the show is anything like listening to the radio interview, it&#8217;s probably as painful as it sounds.\u00c2\u00a0 In a good way.\u00c2\u00a0 I think.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, they&#8217;re still touring.\u00c2\u00a0 Check out the links, and consider hitting a show near you.\u00c2\u00a0 It might not be for everyone, but I think some of us would really appreciate it (hi, <a href=\"http:\/\/xeney.com\/0711\/03.html\">Beth<\/a>!).<\/p>\n<p>*I rather unexpectedly ended up at <a href=\"http:\/\/dcist.com\/2007\/11\/08\/anthony_bourdai.php\">Anthony Bourdain&#8217;s appearance<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m somewhat appalled that I paid to go to what was essentially an extended book signing, but it was terribly entertaining. \u00c2\u00a0 C&#8217;mon, anyone who jokes about being able to &#8220;drop a charging <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rachaelray.com\/\">Rachael Ray<\/a> at 100 yards&#8221; is worth at least a few dollars.\u00c2\u00a0 On the other side, I wanted at least 50 cents back for the lame-assed vegetarian jokes (there are much *much* better vegetarian jokes to be made).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I found out about Mortified: Angst Written too late to go to last night&#8217;s show at H.R. 57.\u00c2\u00a0 I only found out about it when listening to Kojo&#8217;s show, and by the time I got in front of a computer to order tickets, they were sold out.*\u00c2\u00a0 Which is probably a good thing.
