{"id":555,"date":"2007-11-10T21:41:46","date_gmt":"2007-11-11T01:41:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2007\/11\/10\/lunafest\/"},"modified":"2007-11-10T21:41:46","modified_gmt":"2007-11-11T01:41:46","slug":"lunafest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2007\/11\/10\/lunafest\/","title":{"rendered":"Lunafest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stopped by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arlingtondrafthouse.com\/\">Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse<\/a> tonight for the <a href=\"http:\/\/lunafest.org\/\">Lunafest<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/teamlunachixdc.com\/\">Team Luna Chix DC<\/a>, Lunafest is:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00c2\u00a0a national traveling festival of films by . . . for . . . about women.<\/p>\n<p>Lunafest runs from October-March, in that time it is shown by more than 100 venues nationwide and is seen by over 20,000 viewers, each ticket sold raises money for Breast Cancer Fund and local nonprofit organizations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lunafest.org\/the-films.cfm\">The films<\/a> were pretty good, and the speaker (I really regret that I can&#8217;t recall her name) was more than inspiring.\u00c2\u00a0 A breast-cancer survivor and Ironman veteran, she spoke about the causes and effects of breast cancer in a more frank way than I&#8217;ve ever heard anyone talk about it.\u00c2\u00a0 I wish more people would have been there to hear it.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/lunafest.org\/host-a-lunafest.cfm\">concept of the Lunafest<\/a> is really something.\u00c2\u00a0 It is, essentially, a turnkey film festival fundraiser.\u00c2\u00a0 Lunafest provides the centerpiece &#8211; 10 film shorts.\u00c2\u00a0 You provide the venue and select the local charity to benefit.\u00c2\u00a0 The Breast Cancer Fund and the local charity receive the proceeds.\u00c2\u00a0 Luna (maker of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lunabar.com\/\">Lunabars<\/a>), of course, gets the credit for facilitating all of this (and, frankly, deserves it).\u00c2\u00a0 I *really* like this idea.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/lunafest.org\/calendar.cfm\">calendar<\/a> to see if Lunafest is coming your way (really, the films are great, and they&#8217;re *everywhere*).\u00c2\u00a0 If you&#8217;re feeling motivated, consider <a href=\"http:\/\/lunafest.org\/host-a-lunafest.cfm\">hosting<\/a> one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stopped by the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse tonight for the Lunafest.\u00c2\u00a0 Hosted by Team Luna Chix DC, Lunafest is: \u00c2\u00a0a national traveling festival of films by . . . for . . . about women.
