Jim Webb (D-VA) was one of the votes for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raisingkaine.com\/showDiary.do?diaryId=9735\">expanding the Administration&#8217;s surveillance powers without any substantive oversight<\/a>.  And now, today, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_lists\/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&amp;session=2&amp;vote=00015\">he voted for providing retroactive immunity<\/a> for the telecom companies that helped the Administration engage in illegal spying on Americans.  This was a basic question of whether you support the rule of law or not, and Webb failed it.<\/p>\n<p>They always disappoint in the end, don&#8217;t they?<\/p>\n<p>Other Democrats who value the telecom companies over your Constitutional rights and the rule of law include:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li> Jay Rockefeller (D-WV)<\/li>\n<li>Evan Bayh (D-IA)<\/li>\n<li>Daniel Inouye (D-HI)<\/li>\n<li>Tim Johnson (D-SD)<\/li>\n<li>Herb Kohl (D-WI)<\/li>\n<li>Mary Landrieu (D-LA)<\/li>\n<li>Claire McCaskill (D-MO)<\/li>\n<li>Mark Pryor (D-AR)<\/li>\n<li>Blanche Lincoln (D-AR)<\/li>\n<li>Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)<\/li>\n<li>Ken Salazar (D-CO)<\/li>\n<li>Tom Carper (D-DE)<\/li>\n<li>Barbara Mikulski (D-MD)<\/li>\n<li>Ben Nelson (D-NE)<\/li>\n<li>Bill Nelson (D-FL)<\/li>\n<li>Kent Conrad (D-ND)<\/li>\n<li>Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Updated:<\/strong> Atrios <a href=\"http:\/\/atrios.blogspot.com\/2008_02_10_archive.html#3472928617036355183\">says something worth considering<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While one can&#8217;t discount <strike>legalized bribery<\/strike> campaign dollars entirely, I do think too often we assume they&#8217;re the reason lawmakers do the &#8220;wrong thing&#8221; when the simpler explanation that they believe the wrong thing is in fact the right thing is the answer.<\/p>\n<p>Too many Democrats simply don&#8217;t have the values we imagine they do, and it lets them off the hook too much to assume they&#8217;re simply craven people who need to get re-elected instead of bad people who don&#8217;t share our values.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I wouldn&#8217;t go so far as to characterize them as &#8220;bad people&#8221;, but I think this generally gets it right.   I&#8217;m not interested in a monoculture party with perfectly harmonized values, but I do expect a shared core.
