{"id":652,"date":"2008-02-15T20:30:35","date_gmt":"2008-02-16T01:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2008\/02\/15\/friday-notes-late-edition\/"},"modified":"2008-02-15T20:30:35","modified_gmt":"2008-02-16T01:30:35","slug":"friday-notes-late-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2008\/02\/15\/friday-notes-late-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday Notes: Late Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>That was not a foul, woman!<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 &#8211; A private high school in Kansas, center of American enlightenment, <a href=\"http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/2008\/highschool\/02\/13\/female.official.ap\/index.html?cnn=yes\">refuses to let a woman referee a high school boys&#8217; basketball game<\/a>, because &#8211; as described by the referees &#8211; the &#8220;[woman] could not be put in a position of authority over boys because of the academy&#8217;s beliefs[.]&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 You know, I try not to mock people for their religious beliefs, but . . .<\/p>\n<p><strong>What could possibly go wrong?<\/strong> &#8211; Was I the only person that thought that, when hearing about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/23186251\/\">the US plans to shoot down<\/a> the satellite it says is falling out of orbit?\u00c2\u00a0 When I first heard that the US was talking about the decaying orbit last month, it struck me as a bit odd &#8211; this isn&#8217;t really an Administration known for its open and straightforward approach.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, surprise of surprises, it turns out that the claimed justification for shooting it down &#8211; dangerous gas clouds forming from the remaining satellite fuel &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wired.com\/defense\/2008\/02\/fishy-rationale.html\">is most likely bullshit<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Shocker.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m giving it, at best, even money that they hit the damn thing on their first try.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t like it?\u00c2\u00a0 Tough.<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 That, essentially, is how Sen.
