{"id":990,"date":"2008-07-04T10:50:16","date_gmt":"2008-07-04T14:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/?p=990"},"modified":"2008-07-04T10:50:16","modified_gmt":"2008-07-04T14:50:16","slug":"friday-notes-light-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2008\/07\/04\/friday-notes-light-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday Notes: Light Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maybe it should be the International Edition.\u00c2\u00a0 Certainly there&#8217;s no one in the US wasting time at work reading this.\u00c2\u00a0 Independence Day is probably the most widely observed holiday in the US &#8211; moreso than Christmas or Thanksgiving.\u00c2\u00a0 In my first years on the bottom rungs at a law firm, I worked all of these holidays.\u00c2\u00a0 Plenty of company on Thanksgiving and Christmas.\u00c2\u00a0 Fourth of July?\u00c2\u00a0 Ghost town.\u00c2\u00a0 Anyway, light posting today (unless it really starts to rain).\u00c2\u00a0 If you&#8217;re French, take a half day off, since you helped and all.<\/p>\n<p>~<\/p>\n<p>Even if it&#8217;s fake, <a href=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/\/consumer\/shoplifting\/10000th-shoplifter-gets-parade-173398.php\">it&#8217;s funny<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>~<\/p>\n<p>Did you skip over the guest <a href=\"https:\/\/blacknell.net\/dynamic\/2008\/07\/02\/midweek-makeover-cover-girl-edition\/\">Midweek Makeover: Cover Girl Edition<\/a> post?\u00c2\u00a0 Go back and check it out &#8211; more cover goodness (and High Fidelity-level music dorkery in the comments).<\/p>\n<p>~<\/p>\n<p>No more SuperValues meals?\u00c2\u00a0 The American Family Association is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/07\/03\/AR2008070303769.html\">calling for a boycott of McDonalds<\/a>, because McDonalds apparently lacks the requisite hatefulness to stay in the AFA&#8217;s good graces (something about daring to be interested in marketing to gay people).\u00c2\u00a0 And when know what happens when you lack hatefulness (stolen from the comments at WaPo):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I have to confess to an illicit affair with Mayor McCheese. It started out so innocently; we bumped into each other at a food convention and started chatting about McDonald\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new policy. The conversation began to turn and soon we were discussing the appeal of hot beef and soft buns. We sneaked away to his hut and there I touched his pickles and sniffed his onions. He made sure there were plenty of condiments for us both, and it ended with secret sauce. I have never met any faster food in my life. Now he refuses to return my calls. I am at my wit\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s end.
