Politics, open government, and safe streets. And the constant incursion of cycling.

Shenandoah Mountain 100

And these are the top five spots in the 2007 edition of the Shenandoah Mountain 100 – (L to R) Chris Beck, Harlan Price, Jeff Schalk, Floyd Landis, and Gerry Pflug. For the details on the race, check out Sue George’s report at Cycling News. For a better handle on the vibe of the weekend, check out Joel Gwadz (whom you should be reading anyway).  For my view . . . well, you’re going to have to wait for that. The bitterness of someone who didn’t finish takes a while to subside, I’m discovering. A few of my pre and post race photos here.

Floyd Landis (3rd place) congratulates Shenandoah Mountain 100 winner Jeff Schalk (who won by such a wide margin that yes, he did have time to change his shirt . . .).

Photo by MJ. (I couldn’t have possibly taken this, as I was still suffering somewhere waay back on the course . . . ).

Update: don’t miss Harlan Price’s account of his day long battle at the SM100.

  1. thanks for the plug

    now the pressure is on

    I had my camera
but did not have the energy to focus on the blog

there were a few feathers on the course
I debated with how much time woudl be lost if I stopped and picked them up

luckily I made the right decision and did not stop for the feathers

it was a tough day on the bike

I am glad I did it
I am glad it is behind me

Good meeting you, too, Tommy. Was hoping to hang out with you for a while, but the bike had other plans (three chainsuck stoppages between the Cookie Trail descent and the Lynn Trail climb . . .).

    Aw come on,
    I posted up my DNF.
You gotta tell us atleast how far ya made it.

Its been 2 weeks, hasn’t the pain subsided?

You’re a better man than me, Tommy. I made it to Braley’s, about 7.5 hours in. Did everything wrong that I could have done. Nutrition was the biggest mistake, and then letting the Hankey climb outwit me (I really hate that climb). And I’d spent all summer specifically making sure that both of those failure wouldn’t occur. I’m not just bitter that I DNF’d, but bitter that I DNF’d waay before I should have. I’ve done much better on pre-rides of the course, nevermind what I should have turned out on a race day. Of all my races this year, this was the only that left me pissed off at myself.

    Which I still am, apparently.
