Politics, open government, and safe streets. And the constant incursion of cycling.

Someone Should Ask Creigh Deeds . . .

whether he will be helping Iowa politicians put forward a constitutional amendment to ensure that discrimination is built into the Iowa Constitution.  He’s got relevant experience.

Not feeling the love for Deeds, huh?

On the Iowa deal, I am pessimistic about the ultimate outcome. Maybe I have internalized my oppression. Or it could be that I am just weighed down by all these cherry-blossom tourists and their charter buses.

No, no love for Deeds. Yes, he’s done a lot of good work, and gets credit for that. But he decided to play to bigotry with Marshall-Newsome, and for that he deserves someone to remind everyone what he did. Over and over and over again. Too bad. But for that, he may well have been someone I could have supported in the primary. But if your moral compass is so challenged that you can’t stand up for basic equality and decency? No way will I support you in a primary.

I would normally be right there with you on Iowa, except it’s the one bright spot in an otherwise abysmal week for me. So rose-colored glasses for me, thanks.

(And yes, not heading down to Hains Point for my regular rides until the last blossom has blown.)
