Taking Responsibility for Your Own

Fred Kaplan asks a question that really does need more attention: “Are there any Republican grown-ups out there, and, if there are, will they ever start coming to the aid of their party?”

The mere fact that Sarah Palin drives you progressives totally ape shit is good enough for me to vote for her. Even if her policies were total garbage (and I don’t know, because I don’t follow Palin), she couldn’t possibly do worse than the joker currently occupying the oval office.

I’m fairly certain that that’s the central driving decision process behind anything the GOP does. And thus the reason that no one should take halfwits like you seriously.

  3. LFS

You may very well be right about that, but I couldn’t tell you as the GOP doesn’t consult me on their decisions. But even those morons, this halfwit, or the dimwit Sarah Palin could do a better job than the current idiots running things. Voting her in would be a net positive: she’d cause that vein on your forehead to pop and couldn’t possibly screw up as bad as Obama.

And so, even after time to think and consider, petty vengance is still the driving factor. Dude, that’s why no one takes you and yours seriously. Would I love for you to one day realize – and be completely mortified by – what an asshole you are? Sure. But that’s pretty much the very last thing I’d waste my vote on. Lightyears ahead of that, I’d place preservation of human life, quality of life, and justice.

I guess that’s just the difference between you and me.

Well, that and the ability to grasp that I’m really not welcome somewhere.

Their party doesn’t seem to be controlled by anyone (much like ours) at the moment. And the environment doesn’t lend itself to some level-headed Republican standing up and somehow coalescing that base. Look at poor Governor Crist in Florida. Despite being, by most accounts, a good governor in the craziest state in the union, he may very well lose the Republican primary for US Senator (God knows why he wants to be a Senator). That’s the sad state of affairs. Anyway, isn’t there a proverb about the tallest blade of grass being the first to get cut, so don’t stick your neck out? =)

MB, you’ve got it wrong. The motivation isn’t petty vengeance… it is the sheer entertainment value of it all. And bravo for attempting to suggest that you take the high road, especially while calling somebody an “asshole” at the same time. How could any person not see that you and your blog are all about “preservation of human life, quality of life, and justice”? Of course, it would be more obvious if this place you offer were to be of discourse on substantive issues instead of the cheap political potshots wrapped in progressive bullshit talking points that it is. We should all be completely impressed with your desire to advance culture and bring about peace by dwelling on words scrawled on Sarah Palin’s hand and posting profanity laced videos of Colbert. Oh, how enlightened you are!

Regarding being unwelcomed, I’ve got a thick skin and a thicker skull. But it is within your power to ban me if I am so truly unwelcome here. Of course, that would open you up to the criticism that you can dish it out but not take it. And need I remind you, I wouldn’t be here poking you in the eye had you not called me a racist just for being a registered Republican in the South. Maybe you’ll think twice about such sweeping generalizations in the future, but I doubt it.

And it really can all be boiled down to this, I suppose. See, I never did that. Go look. Link? You can’t do it. Because I never did that. Yet – like so many other things – you manufactured an injury that does not exist, just because it suits your purposes. In my view, I just can’t have a worthwhile conversation with someone who is willing to do that.

But it is within your power to ban me if I am so truly unwelcome here.

Aside from spammers, I think I’ve banned one person from the forums I’ve controlled in the 17+ years I’ve been online. It’s just not the way I want to do things. And, funny, most folks are adult enough to generally take the cue when it’s given. I mean, I’ve seen people who – like you – appear to reason that they’re welcome to be anywhere they’re not locked out of. But usually they’re sprawled across the hood of a cruiser getting handcuffed on an episode of Cops.
