Jeff Frederick, recently-elected Chair of the Virginia Republican Party, thought it was a good idea to say that:
“both Barack Obama and Osama Bin Laden have friends that have bombed the Pentagon. That is scary.”
Really. That’s about as reasonable as saying both John McCain and Osama Bin Laden have killed civilians while furthering their political ambitions.  And of course, McCain “would have to look at the context” before he can really judge that remark. But hey, Jeff’s just sayin’.  And Waldo’s rule about RPV choices just gets more and more evidentiary support.

not the best way to win over independents in Northern VA which is needed to keep the state “red”. I know Jeff and am disappointed in the comment even though it was made to an internal volunteer group and not as a stump speech. Obama has plenty of real flaws to attack so I hope those are focused on instead. primarily his economic plan and disjointed energy plan.

It’s not the best way to do anything, I think. As Fredrick’s supporters have told it, he’s a break from the old GOP and a new direction for the party. But engaging in bullshit attacks on someone’s basic loyalty to the country is straight out of the standard GOP playbook. As best I can tell so far, Fredrick represents the same old crap, with a younger face (and perhaps a less shame). Did he follow through on his promise to resign his seat, yet?

what to do? if you don’t for McCain you’re supporting the terrorists. if you don’t vote for Obama you’re a racist. this is what we get when our MSM dumbs down their coverage to snappy sound bites. on a side note though, I have to give McCain credit for refuting the woman at one of his rallys calling Obama an Arab, etc.
Peej
Was that the refute where he started out by noting Obama was a “decent family man”…and ended by noting he was “not an Arab”?
Yes, that was mighty nice of him.
Amit
I don’t recall him saying he was “not an Arab”. this is the clip I was referring to.

frankly, I think that was about as graceful as McCain could have been given that dumb woman put him in an a terrible spot.

Sure, there *are* substantive areas of attack that McCain could explore, but that’s not how he – or his party – works. I’ve not an ounce of sympathy for his position when that ignorant woman stood up and said what she did – that’s exactly who he’s been courting. He doesn’t get much credit from me for his reaction, either, though I suppose it’s better than the smile and laugh when someone asked him “how are we going to beat that bitch?”
