Yup, Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va) is quote as having said that today, about the Fortress DC Lockdown the Secret Service seems to be planning.  Closing all of the bridges from Virginia to DC is bad enough, but making pedestrians prove that they have a right to be in their own neighborhoods? Yeah, I think we might be approaching insane.

So, what I don’t understand is why Key Bridge and Chain Bridge? I mean if people want to spend their time in Georgetown (for some reason that is lost on me) then why prevent them? This seems like a plot by Georgetown and Foxhall residents to increase their isolation akin to their blocking of a metro station there.
Also, 395 continues on to connect to 295. It seems you could block the exits to 14th Street, 11th Street, and the 3rd Street tunnel and still leave the freeway open while achieving whatever security objective they hope to.
And all of GW Parkway inside the belt to the 14th Street Bridge? How does that affect anyone in the district? So, they will divert all airport traffic to Route 1.
Their fear about people being stopped on the bridges seems a little late in coming. Our transportation system is regularly stretched to its maximum capacity (if not very close to it). And Richmond and DC transportation authorities have been slow to remedy that problem. So, the solution to expected dramatic usage is to reduce capacity and funnel people on to already taxed local roads and state highways. VDOT seems to outdo itself sometimes.
What are these people going to do when they erect HOT lanes that will be essentially owned under a 60 year lease by Transurban? Oh, I already know that. We are going to pay Transurban for all of their lost toll revenue when we shut down the lanes for this kind of stuff. Luckily this doesn’t happen often.

I just hope I don’t get caught in the security line behind Jim. The prospect of catching a glimpse of that cavity search makes me feel all ookey inside.

I’m pretty sure Jim would punch out anyone who challenged him.
