Politics, open government, and safe streets. And the constant incursion of cycling.

Not Another Teleprompter Joke. Ever.

I always thought that the teleprompter thing was a little silly – politics is often performance, and prompts are always part of performance. But, like so much else from the right, I ignored it. Now? Seriously, I don’t ever want to hear another joke about Obama needing a teleprompter.

This Is How We Lose

  1. Except that we’re talking about a difference of a couple of orders of magnitude. Palin makes a couple of scribbles on her hand — akin to, but less professional than, Reagan’s index cards — while President Barry has chapter and verse on his TelePrompTer.

  2. I’m with you on this, MB. Seriously – writing on your hand? Isn’t that something we did in junior high?

  3. Not that I don’t understand your strategy here. After all, you moonbats have been very successful in damaging your political opponents with belittlement and derision. Have to stop like conduct by the opposition, if you can.

  4. MB

Totally junior high, Vivian. Right in line with intentionally calling people by names they don’t use.

  5. I’m not gonna lie, I had to look up “Moon Bat” on wikipedia, now I really know what MB stands for.

I don’t really care if someone uses teleprompters, index cards, etc. but if you use them don’t make fun of others who do as well!!! its like someone on crutches making fun of someone in a wheelchair

Yes, having three words scribbled on your hand is exacctly like having whole speeches spoon fed to you by two teleprompters. Even to the point where the wrong speech was given and the speechmaker did not even notice.

Why are you progressives so petty? And the “they started it” excuse doesn’t exactly help your betrayal of being smarter and wiser than everybody else.

  7. MB

Amit, do you want me to erase that bit about having to look up “Moon Bat”? They’re totally not going to let you back into the clubhouse if that ever gets out.

  8. Oh noes! You mean St. Reagan used a teleprompter?

  9. MB

For real and for true, Vivian. Of course, it won’t matter. Always, the facts will be squared to fit the beliefs. Get ready for Palin 2012.

  10. don’t worry about it MB. after my comments about Palin over at BearingDrift I doubt they will let me in anyway

“Of course, it won’t matter. Always, the facts will be squared to fit the beliefs.” You somehow think you are different? Just look at the silly you have demonstrated in this thread alone.

  12. Rather than continue this mindless sniping across the aisle, Americans of both Parties had better wake-up to the perils that we now face and focus our public debate on finding ways to get this nation back on the road to prosperity.

We need to table the current health care bill and forget trying to make the military more of a gay country club, and heed the words of Bill Clinton, when he said, “It’s the economy, STUPID!”

Forget how annoying Palin is and listen to what the Tea Partyers are saying; restrain the government to within its Constitutional limits, provide responsive government, and roll back the Bush intrusions into our rights brought about with the Patriot Act and Bush executive orders that directed DOJ to create an enemies list (that now totals 1.2 Million Americans).

Democrats are the best equipped to serve as the champions of liberty, yet we see the Tea Partyers being drawn to support the very political organization that nearly suspended our Constitution during the Bush regime.

I once had a rector here in NoVa who was a recovering lawyer. All of his sermons were done w/o notes of any kind. Trial lawyers regularly prepare long closing arguments and do not use notes during closing.

Tyler, honestly, I don’t even know how to begin to respond to that. You apparently give far more credit to the Tea Baggers than I ever could. Anyone who waited until Jan 2009 to be concerned about the Constitution? I’m not going to take them seriously.

Warren, it’s possible to do a good show on demand, for sure. But day after day, on different topics? I dunno. I’ve got a lot problems with Obama, which I’m pretty sure have been noted here. But being slow witted is not among them (see, e.g., his “question time” with the GOP week before last). I know (a lot of) litigators, too, and I am fairly certain you’d be floored by the amount of time that goes into prepping for jury (i.e., audience) trials. You would not – I would not – want a President to spend the same amount of time to prepare that these people do, when a teleprompter is available. When someone repeatedly demonstrates his capacity for careful thought, I really don’t give a shit if he uses a teleprompter outside of that.
