Politics, open government, and safe streets. And the constant incursion of cycling.

No, Sen. Schumer, it’s not “the only way.”

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) gets on the Big Brother/REAL ID bandwagon:

I’m sure the civil libertarians will object to some kind of biometric card — although … there’ll be all kinds of protections — but we’re going to have to do it. It’s the only way.

As Lauren Weinstein puts it:

Isn’t that last sentence what Darth Vader said to Luke when trying to get his son to join him, just after revealing his relationship?

Here we go again. At least in regards to certain topics, when it comes to Congress, it’s:

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Sometimes – too often – it is. And this Democrat is tired of it.

  1. Democrats need to take a hard look at how the Republicans became the minority party. And then do the opposite. Because there are too many of us who are getting fed up with the same old same old.

Well, that’s where it’ll go wrong, Vivian. Because most are politicians before they are Dems or Republicans. I don’t offer that up in the pejorative sense, either. But the tendency to believe your own hype is endemic to the political condition, I think.

  3. And, I might add, something that most voters don’t take into consideration. As politics have become more partisan, I think the voters tend to think only in terms of who is the R or who is the D. Witness ,a href=”http://tooconservative.com/?p=4401#comment-209898

At the same time, I think people tune out politics precisely because they see little difference between the parties.

Despair.com has a fitting gift that one might consider sending to the Senior Senator from New York.
