For the tax benefits. Then you divorce, transfer all the expensive stuff to yourself within the year following the divorce, so it still counts as transfers incident to divorce and therefore tax free/not income to you, hope you make more money, pay alimony that sunsets within a certain number of years to the schmuck you’re divorcing (be sure you don’t mess up the numbers so it is taxable!), and take the tax deduction on the alimony, chortling meanly about how it’s taxable income to the other person. Also, don’t have kids, because you can’t deduct child support payments. If you must have kids, take custody and make the other person pay child support.

    What?
