More Like This (VA Democrat Edition)

In all honestly, I didn’t really expect that Del. Patrick Hope (the recent winner in my local delegate contest) would be my kind of Democrat.  In his campaign, he struck me as too soft-spoken and willing to accomodate.  Well, here’s to hoping he keeps proving me wrong:

  1. is the $300M he is referring to part of the Fed stimulus?

one question Hope time and time again refused to answer is where he would make spending cuts and I still don’t hear him offering any suggestions. on top of that he also doesn’t want to increase revenue by privatizing the ABC stores either. so how do we balance the budget?

Amit, Bob McDonnell dropped the VABC privatization idea because the state needs the money those stores and their monopoly on sales generate. Those numbers he threw out on privatization during the campaign were pie in the sky. Not that I don’t favor setting our spirits free, but let’s be serious. It’s not a money maker for the state. Sales of liquor licenses are going to make up for the lost profit and increased cost of enforcement? Also, since Delegate Hope didn’t run on this issue (at least to my knowledge), your point should be directed to the man who did run on this issue.

Also, seems like the man already stated what his alternative was: he favors the Senate budget or his own alternative.

I don’t understand. This $300M is in “matching funds,” right? And the budget he opposes does not spend what is required to get the matching funds, right? So, how much more spending would be required, where must it be spent, and where are we going to get it?
